I was really excited to be promoted from associate to assistant manager in the course of 8 months, but I’m learning it really wasn’t all that I thought it would be. Basically, the job title seems to boil down to ”store’s bitch” …it’s your fault if the associates aren’t happy, your fault if the store manager isn’t happy, customers want to complain to you because they think they can get something over on you, you’re supposed to make sure you’re not bothering the SM on their day off but be completely available to talk store issues on your day off, be a superhuman to get all store tasks done in a day, and keep your sales high.
Fellow robins, please be kind to your managers, they’re probably just as overworked and put upon as you. They too were once little robins… they just didn’t wise up and get out of the retail world fast enough.
Amen.
